Aarong
Aarong began in 1976, when Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC), the Bangladeshi development organisation founded by Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, started training rural women in Manikganj and Jamalpur to make handicrafts, only to find they were waiting months to get paid by the shops reselling their work. BRAC opened its own retail outlet in 1978 to fix that, and named it Aarong, Bangla for “village fair.”
What started as a single shop is now Bangladesh’s largest fair-trade fashion and lifestyle brand, working with more than 87,000 artisans, most of them women, across dozens of stores nationwide. On SASTY, you can browse Aarong’s collection and see exactly how it will look on you.
Celebrate your culture, wherever you are. Try it virtually at SASTY.
