Suta

Suta was founded in 2016 by sisters Sujata and Taniya Biswas, who left corporate careers, Sujata was midway through a PhD in e-commerce at IIT Bombay, to build a saree brand from scratch with just two weavers. The name blends their own, Su and Ta, and also means “thread.”

The sisters built Suta around a simple observation: people loved sarees but found them inconvenient, hard to drape, hard to match with a blouse or petticoat. Suta’s answer was ready-to-wear sarees with the fall already sewn in, alongside handwoven jamdani, mulmul, and banarasi weaves made in collaboration with over 17,000 artisans and weavers across India.
