Sheetal Kapoor was 40 and had spent two decades as a homemaker when she and her husband Sandeep launched Shree in Delhi in 2010. Sandeep brought three decades of experience producing garments for retailers; together they set out to fill a gap in everyday, ready-to-wear Indian ethnic clothing.

Shree actually built its early customer base overseas first, selling through eBay to the UK, US, and Europe, before opening its first physical store in Delhi in 2015.
